Morocco CNSS leaks: paltry salaries and fraudulent practices revealed in major companies in Tangier

A recent data leak from the CNSS (National Social Security Fund) database has shed light on concerning practices within several large companies based in Tangier, revealing cases of under-declaration of salaries, non-compliance with social obligations, and striking wage inequalities among employees.

According to the disclosed data, several companies operating in the industry, services, and transport sectors declare salaries well below the minimum wage, or adopt a double payroll system, where a small portion is officially declared while the rest is paid in cash, outside of any fiscal or social oversight.

The leak also reveals alarming salary discrepancies between employees within the same company, with some earning less than 2,000 dirhams while others benefit from very high salaries without clear justification. This lack of wage equity, according to observers, risks causing internal tensions and harming social cohesion within the structures concerned.

Furthermore, many seasonal and temporary workers are not regularly declared, even in companies with solid financial resources and significant investments. This phenomenon deprives a large segment of the working population of their rights to retirement, medical coverage, and family benefits.

While the CNSS has not yet published an official statement regarding the extent of the hacking or the exact nature of the compromised data, several social rights defense organizations are calling for the immediate opening of a transparent national investigation, a thorough audit of the companies concerned, and the application of dissuasive sanctions against the perpetrators.

Trade unionists in Tangier reacted by stating that « these revelations only confirm a reality experienced daily by workers, » emphasizing the need to strengthen controls and put an end to excessive tolerance towards offending companies.

This affair comes in the context of a national debate on the credibility of the social protection system in Morocco, as the country prepares to extend its coverage to new professional categories by 2026.
