The Miami Herald’s review of millions of pages of recently released Justice Department documents reveals a hidden network of power: how Jeffrey Epstein operated as an unofficial, unsolicited advisor to the wealthiest monarchies in the Middle East.
Epstein saw a void in the market. As the Gulf states shifted away from oil dependency (Vision 2030), he positioned himself as the bridge between Wall Street and the royal palaces.
The Saudi Gambit
Epstein didn’t just want to visit Saudi Arabia; he wanted to run it. In 2016, he told advisor Raafat Al-Sabbagh that taking Aramco public was a disaster waiting to happen. He warned that the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) would allow 9/11 victims to attach Aramco shares, rendering them « worthless. » He proposed a sweeping role for himself, asking to review the central bank, sovereign wealth fund, and the royal purse—all while living in a « small palace. » Records show he traveled to Riyadh in November 2016. Months later, the Saudis gifted him pieces of the Kiswa, the sacred cloth covering the Kaaba. Epstein shipped it to his island.
The Diplomatic Fixer
Epstein acted as a shadow diplomat.
Yemen: He advised billionaire Shaher Abdulhak on a legal strategy for his son (wanted for murder/rape), and was later asked to broker a ceasefire through MBS.
Qatar: He offered Jabor Al-Thani a « clean up » strategy involving a $1 billion terror victims fund and recognition of Israel.
UAE: While incarcerated, he drafted letters and coordinated with UK Minister Lord Mandelson to secure government funding for DP World’s London Gateway project.
The Web of Power
The investigation highlights how these relationships translated into access. Sultan bin Sulayem shared sensitive meeting details regarding Russian leaders and the Crown Prince of Dubai. However, the story ends with the same darkness it began with: after being arrested for child pornography, George Nader was discussed in a final email thread, and Epstein was found dead in his cell just a month later.
The documents reveal a man who was not merely a financier but a manipulator of global ambitions. He used his financial education to critique sovereign plans and his social access to broker political meetings. Yet, beneath the « gifts » and « respect, » he was a convicted sex offender who viewed the powerful as pawns in his personal pursuit of immunity and influence.
