As efforts intensify to revive negotiations on Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025), Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs in the Trump administration, strongly expressed her support Thursday for the U.S. Embassy to the UN’s opposition to the Polisario Front’s latest decision to bomb the occupied city of Smara. « We condemn the attacks carried out by the Polisario Front in Smara, » it wrote in a note posted on its X account.

« Such violence threatens regional stability and the progress made toward peace. These actions are inconsistent with the spirit of recent discussions. The time has come to end this 50-year-old dispute, » the note added.

« These actions are inconsistent with the spirit of the recent talks.   The time to end this 50-year-old dispute is now.  As affirmed in UNSCR 2797, the Moroccan Autonomy Proposal lays out the path to peace in Western Sahara. We call on all those resisting peace to genuinely commit to a brighter future. The status quo cannot continue », it concluded.
