Football – AFCON 2025 controversy: Senegal accused of evading doping control

Après le chaos lors de la finale de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations (AFCON), le Sénégal et le Maroc ont été lourdement sanctionnés par la CAF.

A major controversy has emerged following the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Senegal and Morocco. According to information reported by Goal.com, serious accusations have been made against the Senegalese national team, who are suspected of bypassing mandatory doping control procedures after the match.

According to Moroccan journalist Youssef El Tamsamani, Senegalese players allegedly left the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat approximately 35 minutes after the medal ceremony. This timeframe is considered too short to complete the required anti-doping tests.

In a video posted on Instagram, the journalist stated: “Senegal’s players evaded doping control after the Africa Cup of Nations final.” He also questioned the lack of response from the relevant authorities, including the World Anti-Doping Agency.

He further claimed that sources based in Brussels had attempted to contact the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as well as international anti-doping bodies, but no response had been received so far.

In addition, these revelations are accompanied by allegations of internal tensions within the Senegalese Football Federation, which could further fuel suspicions surrounding the case.

From a sporting perspective, the situation remains unclear. Although Senegal won the final 1–0 after extra time, reports suggest that CAF decided to strip the “Lions of Teranga” of the title and award it to Morocco—an unprecedented move if officially confirmed.

As of now, no official confirmation has been issued by African football authorities or anti-doping organizations. The situation remains ongoing and is being closely monitored.
