U.S. officials warn that without progress in this phase, the fragile ceasefire could collapse into renewed war. While the initial truce halted major combat and allowed for the return of all living hostages, hundreds of Palestinian casualties have occurred since October, and one deceased Israeli hostage’s remains are still in Gaza.

Morocco and Indonesia may be the main countries contributing troops to the International Stabilization Force that will be responsible for security in Gaza when the second phase of the agreement with Israel is implemented, according to the american newspaper Axios. This decision has been made by the US, although it has not yet been made public.

The White House announced today the start of « Phase Two » of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, a critical transition aimed at securing a lasting peace. This phase focuses on demilitarization, new governance, and the massive task of reconstruction.

A new, technocratic Palestinian government, based in Gaza and headed by former official Ali Shaath, has been established to assume day-to-day administration.

Hamas is expected to give up its weapons, with an International Stabilization Force—potentially led by Indonesia and Morocco—taking over security responsibilities as Israeli troops pull back.

A large-scale, multi-year rebuilding effort will begin to address the devastating humanitarian crisis, though shelter remains an urgent challenge.

While the initial truce halted major combat and allowed for the return of all living hostages, hundreds of Palestinian casualties have occurred since October, and one deceased Israeli hostage’s remains are still in Gaza.

A Trump-led « Board of Peace » will oversee the process, holding its first meeting next week at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Former UN envoy Nikolay Mladenov will serve as the Board’s on-ground representative in Gaza.

White House envoy State Witkoff stated, “We are moving from ceasefire to demilitarization, technocratic governance, and reconstruction.” He called on Hamas for full compliance and thanked Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar for their mediation.

The U.S. is moving forward to build momentum, with formal establishment of the oversight board and the international force expected in the coming days.
